Dr. T.S Sridhar

Dr. T.S Sridhar - MBBS, PhD

 

A physician-scientist by training with experience in clinical as well as laboratory research in both academia and industry. Clinical training includes a MBBS at KMC Manipal followed by residency training in Neurology at Barnes-Jewish Hospital of Washington University at St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Research training involved a Ph.D. focused on cancer biology from the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) at Hyderabad, followed by post-doctoral work in auditory physiology at the Eaton Peabody Lab, Mass Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, Boston USA.

He has the experience of establishing start-ups in the nascent biotech sector at the start of the new millennium at Bangalore (Managing Director of ReaMetrix India, and Chief Scientific Officer of Triesta Sciences, India), the first established through an acquisition and the second being acquired by HCG enterprises.

The academic research areas include molecular alterations in Breast cancer as well as fetal growth and development. Experienced in establishing longitudinal cohorts and associated Biobanks. A significant accomplishment was the establishment of long-term clinical follow-up with minimal attrition. During this phase, as the head of a newly established department (Molecular Medicine) at the St. John’s Research Institute, trained multiple Ph.D. students. Obtained research funding through a combination of competitive grants as well as philanthropic funding.

In addition to the academic activity has been involved in an advisory or consulting role with Connexios Life Sciences, a drug discovery company and Shilps Sciences Pvt Ltd. in their activity of development of microfluidic devices for single cell analysis. Has also been a member of the scientific advisory board of Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre.

Dr. K.S. Rao (M.V.Sc., Ph. D, DABT), is a Board-Certified Toxicologist with more than 40 + years of global experience in safety evaluation. Started his career in 1971 at G.D. Searle and later moved to Dow Chemical and Quintiles, USA. After returning to India, he was heading M/s Jai Research Foundation, Gujarat and Head of Toxicology at, M/s Advinus Therapeutics and M/s Syngene International, Bangalore. He is an international expert in the toxicological assessment of Agrochemicals, Industrial Chemicals (REACH), Drug Development (small and large molecules) from Discovery Toxicology to IND and NDA filing, Food Additives, Nutraceuticals, Vaccines, Medical Devices and Cosmetic Ingredients. Special emphasis is on Impurity qualification and mutagenic assessment of impurities.

Dr. Rao has been providing guidance on product development to hundreds of companies across the world with major emphasis on testing schemes/strategies and Risk Assessment. He is an Emeritus Member of the Society of Toxicology (SOT) in USA. The first Indian Toxicologist, appointed for this status for being a member of the SOT for 40 years. Dr. Rao is the recipient of the Life Time Achievement award from the Society of Toxicology of India (STOX) for his outstanding contributions in Toxicology. He is instrumental in getting the Diplomate of American Board of Toxicology (DABT) examination to India since 2009. In the last 8 years, 90 candidates have passed the DABT examination from India. Dr. Rao has published and presented papers in international journals and conferences. He is the principal author of more than 500 safety evaluation study reports of various new compounds marketed or to be marketed. These reports are submitted to regulatory authorities of several countries including FDA & EPA (U.S.A), EMA, Japanese Health and Indian Regulatory Authorities. Dr. Rao is the recipient of the Toxicologist Mentor Award from the Society of Toxicology (SOT). Dr. Rao is the First Indian origin to receive such an award in the 60-years history of the existence of the SOT.
